
Carlos Slim’s company Telmex, continues to battle in the war of communications in Mexico.
With claims filed with the COFECO (Comision Federal de Competencia) TELMEX complains against Televisa, Televisién Azteca, Cablevision, Megacable, Cablemas y Television Internacional for alleged monopolistic practices. Law suits were filed against Televisa and TV Azteca for the duopoly in the open television advertising market to try and take out Telmex out of the telephony market. Also included a lawsuit, a claim against Televisa for its failure of its imposed conditions by COFECO to purchase Cablemas, the suit against cablevision is for their refusal and blocking the sale of advertising while accusations against Yoo (cable offer, internet and telephone) for absolute monopolistic practices in the pact with companies like Cablevision, Mega cable, Cablemas and Television Internacional to control market and prices.
“Telmex requested COFECO their intervention so that the networks suspend their media campaigns that have been taken against Telefonos de Mexico”, Javier Mondragon commented, legal director of Telmex and added that “there are 10 million users that do not get video because they don’t want to deliver and they don’t allow us to do so when the network is installed,” concluded the legal director, letting them know that these practices go against the Mexican people.
